When there is a number following the townland name, it is only to distinguish it from other townlands with the same name.

Doon Town

Civil Parish: Doon
Diocese: Cashel & Emly
Barony: Coonagh
Poor Law Union: Tipperary
Catholic Parish: Doon

Doon is a village and parish (population 378 - 1996 census) partly in the barony of Kilnemanagh (County Tipperary) and partly in the barony of Owenybeg, but chiefly in the barony of Coonagh, County Limerick and the province of Munster. It is 14 miles from Limerick City on the old road to Templemore. The parish contains the Bilboa and Doon Mountains. The soil is remarkably rich, especially along the Rivers of Dead and Mulcaire and is good for farming. Near the end of the 18th century more than 100 acres of bog moved in a massive “bogslide” which killed five people and destroyed 13 houses. In the area is an ancient castle of the Earls of Desmond, Castle Guard. Toomaline House was formerly a priory of the Cannons regular. The parish contains a number of churches and a school. A commanding view of the Galtee Mountains can be had from the area
